Due to the 10th anniversary of the International Year of Mountains the Ministry of Economy of the Kyrgyz Republic, the State Agency for Environmental Protection and Forestry under the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic, the UN Development Program organize a number of activities devoted to issues of the sustainable mountain development in changing climate conditions, environment protection, sustainable land management, rational use of natural resources. During October
and December 2012 the conferences and round tables are planned to be held according
to the programme (see the program on the websites below)
On December 10-11, 2012 the conclusive
events will take place in Bishkek at the National Academy of Sciences of the KR and several universities, resuming the International Scientific and
Practical Conference “Mountains and Climate”. The final activity will be the
Plenary Session, which summarize the outcomes of Conference and approve the
resolution.
The conference will bring scientists,
practitioners, decision makers and other stake-holders to exchange the opinions
and present the scientific applied results of research related to climate
change in mountainous areas, and discuss the possibilities of multilateral
cooperation between communities of mountainous countries. The program of the
conference includes reports, exhibition of publications devoted to mountain issues, presentation of achievements of projects implemented in mountainous
regions, and roundtables on the
following directions:

Food
security and land recourse in climate
change conditions - issues of
adaptation· Water resources and natural hazards in mountainous regions connected with the climate change;
· Ecosystems and the climate change (1. Bio-indicators of the climate change in mountainous regions; 2. Biodiversity preservation in the climate change conditions)
· Role of NGO in sustainable development of mountains
· Youth and sustainable mountain development (student session)
Materials of the conference:
Peer-reviewed articles (not less than 4
pages, in English), will be published in scientific journal “Oecologia MONTANA”
(International journal of mountain ecology, Slovakia). Cover letter from the
organization supervisor should be attached to paper.
Deadline for the paper for the journal “Oecologia MONTANA” – 30 October 2012.
Papers in Russian will be published in journals of organizers –partners: “Proceedings of NAS KR”, “Scientific journal of the IUK”, “Scientific journal of the KRSU”, “Sustainable Development of Mountainous Regions (Russia)”, “Proceedings of OshTU”, “Scientific journal of the KNAU”, “Scientific journal of the KSUCTA”
